How do plastic recycling machines work?

Sorting and classification
Sorting is the process of separating different types of plastics into categories so that they can be used effectively in different ways. Sorting may involve manual labor or machines that can separate plastics into several categories based on chemical composition, plastic density, plastic color, etc. Related machines are color sorters, sorting/screening machines, manual picking tables, cleaning pools, etc.
Washing
In order to improve the quality of the final product plastic flakes or recycled plastic particles and sell them at a better price. When recycling waste plastics, the recycled waste plastics must be cleaned to remove any impurities in it during its processing. Cleaning involves removing dust, oil, adhesives and debris from the outer surface of the plastic so that it can be reused with confidence without leaving any contaminants.
Crushing
The plastic is then fed into a plastic crusher, which breaks it down into smaller pieces. These small pieces are easier to reprocess and reuse than intact plastic products. Crushed plastic flakes also help with cleaning and finding impurities that were not removed, such as metal impurities.
Identification and separation of plastics
Plastics are sorted based on their density, thickness and other characteristics using various tests. For example: if the pellets are lighter than water, they will float; if the density of the pellets is less than water, they will be heavier; if the pellets are heavier or denser than water, they will stay at the bottom of the tank.
Drying
The wind generated by the machine removes the moisture from the plastic flakes, reducing the moisture content so that it can enter the next processing step.
Melt extrusion
In this final process step, the plastic flakes are converted into useful recycled plastic pellets for manufacturers. The plastic flakes are melted using a plastic extrusion pelletizer, then extruded into plastic strips, which are finally cut into pellets. It is worth noting that it is not always possible to compound all types, classifications and qualities of plastics in one machine, so different materials need to be processed using different machines.
